To the Editor: In a recent NIH Clinical Staff Conference (Ann. Intern. Med. 69 803, 1968) the following statement appeared: "This paraproteinemia may represent a limited plasma cell response to a yet undefined chronic stimulus. Osserman and Fahey have recently reported a high prevalence [the italics are mine] of chronic biliary tract disease in patients with plasma cell dyscrasia and paraproteins that is consistent with such a hypothesis" (1). The "high prevalence" referred to above is really 10% (2). I recently completed a study of 51 patients with plasmacytic dyscrasia at the Shands Teaching Hospital, Gainesville, Fla., which reconfirmed Dr.
