Iodine-131 and flourine-18 concentrate selectively in neoplastic osseous lesions. Nonradioactive fluorides (NaF, Na2PO8F, and KF) have been administered orally during the past 4 years to patients with neoplastic bone lesions arising from the breast, lung, kidney, pancreas, colon, and multiple myeloma in doses of 25 to 200 mg/day. Increased opacification in osteolytic and osteoblastic lesions was demonstrated by roentgenography within 4 to 6 months in 30 patients (40%) and was characterized by a dense, irregular, but diffuse sclerotic pattern.
