Dr. James's book is essentially a handbook for the practicing physician. Although prepared by a single author, the viewpoint expressed is representative and reliable due in part to the use of carefully selected bibliographic sources. The author's style is informal, yet concise, which makes for ease of reading. Liberal use of illustrative material, which includes good quality radiographs, diagrams, photographs, and photomicrographs, further complements the text. The indexing is good, facilitating rapid location of specific information.
