The field of thrombosis research has in the past decade undergone a major shift in emphasis clearly reflected in this book recording the proceedings of a symposium held in August 1968. Although the first Federal funds were allotted to platelet research in 1951, the role of these cellular fragments and their interaction with blood vessel walls dominate this volume as they do current research in this area. Fibrinolytic mechanisms are also considered in about one third of the 24 separate articles, whereas plasma coagulation proteins are barely discussed in this symposium.
