To the Editor: The discussion of the paper by Dr. Stead and Bates entitled "Primary Tuberculosis from the Far East" (Ann. Intern. Med. 70: 707, 1969) states that "it [tuberculosis] is certainly not among the primary dangers for persons in such a theater of war where soldiers have little time or inclination to fraternize with the native population."
From my personal experiences in Vietnam, I feel that this statement paints an overly optimistic picture. Admittedly, tuberculosis is not one of the "primary" dangers faced by our men in Vietnam, yet it is a very real danger, and one that should
