To the Editor: The editorial note by Dr. Burke (1) highlights some of the problems involved in ascertaining the significance of long-acting thyroid stimulator (LATS). As the matter is one of dispute, I would like to propose a unifying hypothesis.
With reference to the effects of LATS on various tissues as noted in the review by Burke (2), many of the apparent discrepancies might be clarified if genetic concepts were taken into account.
