Patients with abdominal pain are frequently first seen by their internist or family physician. In my opinion some of the standard medical texts and medical training programs do not emphasize the mangement of the patient with an acute abdomen sufficiently. Current trends and changing medical school curricula may not help the situation. This book provides a well-organized approach to such patients, and I recommend it to students, internists, and anyone dealing with abdominal pain. The authors are surgeons and clearly outline situations where surgery will be life saving, and also those where it could be detrimental.
