To the editor: I question the merit of Dr. Holmes' patronizing comments not supported by any evidence save his own opinions and testimonials (Ann Intern Med 72:123-127, 1970). Since he is a psychiatrist attached to a reputable medical school, we have a right to a minimum of documentation, lest we unfairly accuse him of pandering to current tastes in passing off conventional wisdom as scientific fact.
