Computer analysis was done of 21,000 consecutive cases of cancer seen between 1944 and 1969 and followed by the Tumor Registry of the University of Kansas Medical Center. This group included both inpatients and outpatients; follow-up exceeded 99.3%. Survival was calculated by the actuarial method of Berkson and Gage. For purposes of comparison survival of patients registered between 1944 and 1956 was compared with patients registered from 1957 to 1969; thus, an early group and a recent group were compared.
