Although the breadth of the material covered in this book is adequate, the depth, accuracy, and referencing of each section are inadequate. In the discussion of hereditary spherocytosis no reference is made to the loss of lipid membrane with aging or the abnormality in the Na+ pump mechanism of the spherocyte. The discussion of the pathogenesis and diagnosis of the "Defibrination Syndrome" is inadequate, and the reader is left with the idea that determination of the fibrinogen level is the only laboratory method available to make the diagnosis.
