Five patients with 2:1 atrioventricular block were observed at bedside to have prominent a waves in their jugular venous pulse occurring before their conducted beats. Two of these patients also had prominent c waves after their prominent a waves. These clinical observations were confirmed by internal jugular venous tracings. Hypotheses for the physiological mechanisms causing these waves are discussed.
