WARREN HEFFRON, M.D.; R. PHILIP EATON, M.D.
Two thyrotoxic patients presented with choreoathetosis. The choreoathetotis was resolved with antithyroid drugs, and one patient rapidly improved with beta blockade. Only one previous case of this association has been reported in the English literature. Our observations suggest that chorea in hyperthyroidism represents a thyroxin-potentiated hyperadrenergic state. The clinical importance of beta blockade in the treatment of thyrotoxicosis is exemplified by these observations.
