The "New Duncan," as it is popularly known, is an excellent contribution to the literature in endocrinology. Like all multiauthored volumes, it has its peaks and vales, but in this case the peaks are high and the vales provide, at least, a pleasant transit. Perhaps the outstanding chapter is that by John Potts and Leonard Deftos on the parathyroid. It is in fact a classic, and one hears the comment that it alone is worth the price of the book (which, by the way, is not too high if one only buys the volume of interest of the two-volume set).
