The contribution of Baldwin and co-workers, published elsewhere in this issue of the ANNALS, emphasizes again the importance of the renal histological findings in guiding the therapy of the nephritis of systemic lupus erythematosus. Unfortunately such results from many centers have not been presented in standardized form and are thus often difficult to compare. But it is clear that many patients present with a limited lesion, local, focal glomerular inflammation hereafter referred to as "glomerulitis," which does not appear to require treatment beyond that given to control the extrarenal manifestations.
