Now is an appropriate time for publication of the third edition of this clear and practical guide to laboratory diagnosis in medical mycology. We are witnessing a surge in the incidence of opportunistic fungal infections as a counterpart of modern therapy with steroids, antibiotics, and immunosuppressive drugs. Unusually widespread dermatophyte infections are being reported increasingly in patients with endocrine disorders and lymphoma. There are a number of excellent treatises and texts that cover in detail the clinical aspects of fungal disease. Now we have an excellent book that should make it a pleasure for even a novice to sit down
