The epinephrine provocative test was performed in five patients in whom the diagnosis of systemic mastocytosis had been established both by biopsy and by findings of high histamine levels in urine. In each patient the result of the epinephrine provocative test was negative. This finding supports the reliability of the epinephrine provocative test as an aid to the diagnosis of carcinoid syndrome by adding to the documentation of its specificity.
