Two Japanese investigators have tried to improve the diagnostic differentiation of organic and emotional impotence with studies of penile blood flow (1). Their method is based on this hypothesis: in emotional impotence the spinal reflex control of arterial blood flow into the penile venous sinusoids is normal, whereas in organic impotence the control of blood flow is impaired by lesions at the sacral cord or in the nervi erigentes.
