A well-known text designed for specific needs of medical students. Areas of "applied" physiology sometimes neglected in general texts of this kind get special attention: space and barophysiology; fetal and neonatal physiology; clinical electrocardiography. Clinical pathophysiology is considered, usually briefly; this text is not a substitute for treatises that concentrate on the physiological interpretation of disease.
Well suited to initial teaching in medical physiology but inadequate for detailed review of pathophysiology by house officers and Board candidates.
