Experience to date of mithramycin treatment for fifty-five patients with Paget's disease of bone has proved it to be an effective form of therapy. Consistently immediate and dramatic suppression of disease activity is objectively shown by dramatic reductions in serum alkaline phosphatase and urinary hydroxyproline values and by subjective relief of pain within days. One patient has demonstrated dramatic relief from spinal cord compression with marked weakness of the lower extremities, literally "having taken up his bed and walked."
