Dr. Sokoloff has provided us with a work that may be a major step in the understanding of degenerative joint disease. He has brought together in a coordinated and interesting fashion a mass of material dealing with the properties of normal and abnormal articular cartilage, its biochemistry, histology, ultrastructure, and pathophysiology. To my knowledge no other equivalent book exists, and this short work should therefore serve a very useful purpose for all those interested in the biological aspects of degenerative joint disease.
