CHASE PATTERSON KIMBALL, M.D.
Clinical experience suggests that many individuals treated with corticoids become psychologically dependent on their euphoric side effects. This dependency, which may result from a number of factors, frequently interferes with the physician's efforts to withdraw the drug when the disease process under treatment objectively improves. It may also contribute to other debilitating side effects of the drug. A discussion of these based on two case vignettes is presented. Research is needed to further define and clarify this phenomenon.
