The format and depth of the latest edition of Gradwohl's encyclopedic reference for laboratory medicine's general practitioners is similar to the sixth edition. The sections on microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, serology, and blood groups have been updated; for example, they contain discussions of automated and quality control procedures. Special topics have been condensed or eliminated and in vivo methods (basal metabolism, electrocardiography, skin tests) have been abbreviated or integrated into other sections.
