To the editor: Drs. Hart and McCurdy, in a letter to the Editor, "Pernicious Anemia in Negroes" (1), state that pernicious anemia is frequent in negroes and has the same characteristics as that of white patients. In the age group that they discuss, the latter is correct. He is undoubtedly dealing with a biased sample. In our hospital population, which reflects the general population, pernicious anemia in the negro is relatively uncommon in the age group that they describe, but in the age group under 40, of which they report no cases, it is far more common in the negro
