The purpose of this short monograph is to discuss basic concepts affecting the level of oxygen tension in heart muscle. In order to accomplish this, the author uses the Krogh-Erlang equation of diffusion, values of oxygen consumption, myocardial blood flow, diffusion distance, and capillary dimensions and derives tissue oxygen with computer-assisted calculations. The 85 figures in the book detail the computer analyses of these variables on tissue oxygen tension. This book is so highly specific and limited in its scope that it will appeal only to a very small group of individuals.
There are several critical omissions in the book.
