The two authors of this fresh, new text have succeeded in their stated aim of a "succinct and yet reasonably comprehensive account of modern rheumatology." In contrast to Hollander and Copeman, there are no general chapters dealing with subjects such as physical treatment, radiology, pathology, biology of joints, and surgery. Such areas, covered in the two large standard texts, at best would be repetitive and probably see little service during the life of the book. Boyle and Buchanan have skillfully interwoven pathology, biochemistry, immunology, and radiology into superb clinical descriptions. There is lavish use of line drawings, radiographs, and photographs.
