This is a splendid short collection of historic papers on 11 of the classical brain stem syndromes. The papers are arranged chronologically from 1855 to 1911. Nine of the 11 articles are translations, with some editing, from the original French or German. The clinical descriptions are those of Benedikt, Foville, Gubler, Jackson, Landry, Millard, Parinaud, Raymond, Salus, and Weber. Before each article, Dr. Wolf has included a brief description of the syndrome and the anatomy involved.
