A compilation of 49 papers presented at a symposium on physical fitness held in Copenhagen in 1970. The first two chapters contain interesting articles on the physiology of exercise and effects of inactivity and the effect of training in distribution of cardiac output. The next four chapters deal with studies of the effects of exercise on abnormal cardiovascular conditions, such as angina, intermittent claudication, and myocardial infarction. Chapter 7 presents reports on assessment of physical work capacity, and Chapter 8 covers immunological studies on the relation of physical activity to the risk of coronary heart disease.
