This small text presents the author's point of view on a common but not well-understood condition. An interesting aspect is that the author also gives the opinions of other orthopedists on this subject, which presents some problems to the reader. The recommendation of the author and his colleague, Dr. Charles Weer Goff, that prolonged use of tetracycline for osteochondrosis of the femoral head is "nearly always helpful" is not supported by any data. Throughout the section on specific entities the author recommends administration of tetracycline and multiple vitamins. This sort of approach seems unusual when there really are no data
