Pituitary disorders, including acromegaly, Cushing's disease, Nelson's syndrome and chromophobe adenoma, have been treated with 910-Mev alpha particles. By using their special radiobiological properties the known resistance of the pituitary to conventional externally delivered radiations (X or gamma rays) has been overcome, and a sufficiently large amount of energy has been delivered to the hyperplastic or adenomatous pituitary without damaging surrounding vital structures and without entering the cranial cavity.
