In vitro, the effects of plasma from patients with malignant neoplasms who were not receiving radiation and chemotherapy were studied on DNA and RNA synthesis from 14C-thymidine (TdR), 3H-deoxyuridine (UdR), and 14C-uridine (UR) in day-5 L1210 mouse ascites leukemic cells. Plasma at the concentration of 10% from three of 20 patients showed 50% to 90% inhibition of TdR incorporation into DNA, 50% to 75% UdR into DNA, and 70% to 98% UR into RNA.
