New therapeutic procedures in medicine frequently wend a course of slow development, attended by conservative skepticism, only to be followed by acceptance and use in an almost logarithmic increase. Total hip replacement is no exception to the rule. This procedure is already so widely used that a well-done, informative text reviewing its clinical facets and theoretic biomechanical foundations would be of significant value.
