This book catalogues the effects of approximately 150 pharmacological agents on animal cell cultures. Major emphasis is placed on anticancer, antimicrobial, and steroid compounds. For each drug a brief summary of the most significant publications (with references) is presented, describing the drug's effect on the microscopic appearance, changes in appropriate biochemical measures, and growth of cells in tissue culture. Many of the compounds are either too toxic for clinical use or not clinically available for other reasons. The author does not correlate the tissue culture results with the in vivo effects of the drugs that are available for clinical use.
