Dr. Guyton's general textbook on physiology is one of the major texts for medical schools: from it he has excerpted the section that treats of the nervous system for this high-quality paperback. It covers, in a score of chapters, the entire gamut of nervous organization, from membrane polarization and circuit models to memory and psychosomatic functions. Muscle excitation and contraction are included. The relative emphasis given the various subjects seems appropriate for the 250 pages.
