A fine republication of the detailed, precise color plates originally published in the Ophthalmoskopischer Hand-Atlas, 1869, of Edward Jaeger, GM 5904. Dr. Albert has prepared a historical introduction on the development of the ophthalmoscope by Heimholte, the work of Jaeger, and the train of events that brought the plates to this publication via the Philadelphia ophthalmologist William Fisher Norris (1839-1901). The plates are introduced with modern descriptions by Dr. Albert, so this atlas has great value, both as a text for modern students and as a document in the history of medicine.
