To the editor: I read with care the lead article in the May 1972 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine (76:689-695), "Community Medicine: An Evolving Discipline," in which Challenor, Wicks, and Lythcott grappled with issues with which our own department has come to grips. . . . Although I agree. . .that there is an urgent need for crisp definition of these matters, I do not share their overly expansive concept of our discipline.
