Descriptive pathology has always been an important foundation for the understanding of disease. Musculoskeletal-system disease particularly lends itself to such an approach, since gross and even microscopic pathology of bone and joint disease can be correlated with the roentgenogram. Dr. Henry Jaffe has followed this format; his text comprises 1077 pages, and 285 figures illustrate his discussion of bone and joint diseases. In this era of multiple authorship and proceedings of symposia on subjects of lesser scope, Jaffe's book is a monumental effort for one author.
