In the January and February 1948 issues of Cancer Research, Hoster, Dratman, Craver, and Rolnick published their review, "Hodgkin's Disease—1832-1947." In 78 pages they summarized progress over the previous 115 years, as reported in 572 articles. The cause of the disease was unknown. The Jackson and Parker histopathologic classification had been introduced only 3 years earlier. Staging of the disease was based solely on clinical findings and on a limited number of radiologic examinations.
