This broad-based manual provides a guide to the early care of the injured patient. An outgrowth of previous manuals on fracture and soft tissue injuries, it has been expanded to include chapters on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, posttraumatic pulmonary insufficiency, thermal and chemical injuries, shock, infection, and anesthesia.
Priorities of assessment and management are appropriately emphasized in the early chapters. Primary attention is focused initially on ensuring effective respiratory exchange and circulatory volume. Once these have been secured, further systematic evaluation is carried out.
The chapters are well organized and replete with helpful checklists and tables. The numerous illustrations are well chosen
