The descriptive word "chronic" was applied to certain morphologically identified leukemias because such patients lived a relatively longer time than those with the "acute" leukemias. A great deal has been attempted and accomplished in the investigation and therapy of the acute leukemias. It is appropriate that a book on the chronic leukemias appear now, as a timely updating of the information available in both basic and clinical science.
