The annual congress of German hematologists in October 1971 was exclusively devoted to the discussion of leukemia. More than 90 papers on basic and clinical topics were presented, which are included in this well-edited and expensively bound volume. Its content suggests that the congress was organized in two parts: reviews by invited experts and original contributions, probably selected from submitted abstracts. Such a division of congressional programs has stood the test of time and of acceptance by the professional public.
