The cyclone in 1970 and the civil war in 1971 in Bangladesh focused the world's attention on this emerging nation and created a demand for accurate, detailed information about the health crisis facing the nation. To provide such information, the Bangladesh Information Center was created by students, physicians, and scholars. As an outgrowth of these activities, this book was written to describe the critical health issues in the country, to document the impact of the disasters, and to detail principles of disaster relief for future operations.
