These papers from a large number of scientists, arranged into 47 chapters, are drawn from the symposium on sphingolipidoses and allied disorders held at the Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York, 25-27 October 1971. They present an overall consideration of these disorders, particularly as they pertain to biochemical alterations and ultrastructural changes. The papers discuss in detail such important topics as the chemical pathology of Tay-Sachs Disease; brain lipoproteins; biosynthesis and degradation of the mucopolysaccharides; and the screening procedures to detect the genetic carriers of the lipidoses. References cited at the end of each chapter. No index.
