To the editor: In his article, "Digitalis Glycosides" (Ann Intern Med 79:229-238, 1973) Dr. Doherty recommends adjustment of digitalis dosage in patients with thyroid disorders. He attributes the alteration in digitalis requirements in these patients to an altered end-organ responsiveness to digoxin. The data he presents in Figure 8 of his article, however, show significant differences in serum concentrations of tritiated digoxin in hypothyroid, hyperthyroid, and euthyroid patients given the same dose of digoxin.
