To the editor: I recently reread the commendable February 1973 article, "Undertreatment of Medical Inpatients With Narcotic Analgesics," by Marks and Sachar (Ann Intern Med 78:173-181, 1973), and once again found myself in agreement with the positions they took in their paper. Although their points speak for themselves, I have one or two observations to add that might be of some practical clinical importance in prescribing drugs for pain relief.
