The field of mineral (calcium and phosphorus) and bone metabolism—of metabolic bone diseases in particular—suffers from a plethora of old and new facts and observations and a lack of a satisfactory conceptual framework that would allow clinicians to organize the available knowledge in a meaningful fashion and to elaborate effective therapeutic strategies. This applies particularly to osteoporosis. Morgan's monograph goes a long way toward satisfying such needs. Intended originally as a review of the chemical changes accompanying osteomalacia, renal osteodystrophy, and osteoporosis, his monograph in its final form offers a systematic and complete review of these three major bone diseases.
