To the editor: I read with interest the article, "Islet Cell Tumors: Current Concepts and Management," by Schein and associates (Ann Intern Med 79:239-257, 1973). Their scholarly discussion and presentation of various side effects of streptozotocin were impressive. We have used streptozotocin in a case of malignant insulinoma with multiple liver metastasis. In our case, there was severe hypoglycemia, successfully treated with streptozotocin administered on the same drug schedule as that described by Schein.
