To the editor: An excellent paper by Maddrey and Boitnott in your July issue (Ann Intern Med 79:1-12, 1973) has well documented the clincal features of isoniazid hepatitis. Their data and the correlation with hepatitis in the general population are revealing and add further confirmation of the problem.
The Chronic Respiratory Disease Section was alerted to the possible correlation of isoniazid ingestion with the occurrence of hepatitis in 1968. After this alert the tuberculosis controller instituted a city-wide surveillance project.
