To the editor: Jeghers (1) emphasized the importance of a personal filing system in self-education, and recently several papers concerning filing systems have been published (2-5).
Our somewhat different method for filing and retrieving medical literature is designed to meet the individual needs of those physicians and paramedical personnel involved in self-education, patient care, teaching, and research. The system (Figure 1) is based on a personalized index that develops and expands in response to the growth and change of the user's interests. References (reprints, monographs, abstracts, and so forth) are listed under several topic categories, thus incorporating the dimension of
