The great misfortune of this book is its timing. If it had been published 1 to 1½ years earlier, it would have fulfilled the worthwhile function of summarizing much of the literature on the chromosomal abnormalities that had been detected in various types of human cancer by use of the standard techniques. As it is, the new banding techniques have revolutionized not only the study of congenital chromosome abnormalities but also, at least as radically, the study of chromosomes in cancer.
