The aggregation of articles that compose this multi-authored work are the papers that were presented at a symposium that grew out of the need for more effective communication between clinicians and basic scientists working in disciplines relevant to psychosomatic medicine. Included among the 26 contributors are psychologists, psychoanalysts, physiologists, and clinicians. The text is loosely divided into three broad categories—theoretical and physiological bases of emotions, experimental observations, and clinical correlates of a few selected psychosomatic disorders. Each presentation is preceded by an abstract that enables the reader to determine at a glance his level of interest in the particular article.
